The M.S. Ghausi Medal – named for Mohammed S. Ghausi, a former Dean of the College of Engineering – is awarded each year to one outstanding graduating senior. The 2017 Ghausi Medal goes to Emmet Francis from the Department of Biomedical Engineering.
A Regents Scholar who has been on the Dean’s list every quarter, Emmet stands out among the top students in his department and the College of Engineering. His nominators note that he is exceptionally bright, but at the same time humble, unfailingly friendly, and utterly reliable.
Emmet’s accolades include authorship on three high-impact journal manuscripts already published or under revision, one podium talk and one poster presentation at an international conference, a Provost’s Undergraduate Fellowship (PUF), and travel awards from the Biophysical Society and the UC Davis Undergraduate Research Center. He also gave a talk at the 2017 UC Davis Undergraduate Research Conference. In the fall, Emmet will pursue a Ph.D. focusing on cellular biophysics in the College of Engineering at UC Davis.
Congratulations to the 2017 outstanding student scholars and department citation award winners.
