The Engineering Student Startup Center (ESSC) has been designed to provide all UC Davis students — undergraduates and graduates — with an opportunity to experience the entrepreneurial process while developing, refining and prototyping their ideas for technology startups. ESSC is a hands-on supplement to the standard education regimen: a makerspace and student startup incubator established by the UC Davis College of Engineering to accelerate the transition of innovative student ideas to high-impact technology development and commercialization. Our mission is to identify and influence highly creative students from all areas of study at UC Davis, facilitate the creation of student E-teams, and provide mentor support from fellow students, staff, faculty, alumni and visiting entrepreneurs.
The Engineering Student Startup Center gives students a space where — from the very beginning of their academic careers at UC Davis — they can develop their creative confidence and making skills: a stimulating “think tank” that allows students to move beyond the environment and technological limitations of a dorm room, apartment, or traditional classroom. ESSC also enables students to get connected to campus and national entrepreneurship organizations, including the UC Davis Engineering Translational Technology Center (ETTC), the UC Davis Graduate School of Management’s Child Family Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the National Collegiate Inventors and Innovators Alliance, and the National Center for Engineering Pathways to Innovation (Epicenter).
