College of Engineering Receives Green Engineering Award

HENAAC and Green Technology Magazine presented a “University Innovator” in Green Engineering award Oct. 5 to the College of Engineering for its role in establishing the UC Davis Energy Efficiency Center, “the first university research unit in the country to focus on energy efficiency.”

HENAAC noted in presenting the award that UC Davis and the College of Engineering have built national reputations in energy, environmental and transportation research, ranging from fundamental science to technology, public policy and technology transfer.

This is the first year the Green Engineering awards have been presented. The other winners were: Individual Trail Blazer, Helena L. Chum of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory; Corporate Stewardship, Waste Management; Green State Pioneer, the California Department of General Services.

HENAAC was formerly known as the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Conference, but dropped the acronym in 2005. It was established in 1989 “as a means of identifying, honoring, and documenting the contributions of outstanding Hispanic American science, engineering, technology and math professionals.”
