Warren and Leta Giedt Hall Dedicated
Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef, College of Engineering Dean Enrique Lavernia, Winston Ko, Dean of the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and guests, dedicated the latest new state-of-the-art classroom building on the UC Davis campus on March 12. The 15,000 square-foot, $7.5 million building, equipped with two classrooms and three lecture theaters, was made possible by a donation of $2.5 million from the late Warren and Leta Giedt. Warren Giedt was a founding member of the College of Engineering faculty, serving as the first chair of the department of mechanical engineering. A second gift of $400,000 from alumnus and former geology lecturer Rand Schaal and his father, Ted Schaal supports a lecture auditorium bearing their name. Professor Giedt, who died on March 23, was able to see the fruition of a dream. He spoke at the dedication, with many of his friends, family, former colleagues and students attending.
