Engineers at Work

College of Engineering alumni are using their educations to make a difference in their profession and in society.

Quincy Engineering, Inc.

Jason Chou has been interning with Quincy Engineering since Spring of 2006. He received his B.S. from UC Davis in 2006 and is now pursuing a Masters at Davis, with a structural focus.

What type of work have you been doing at Quincy Engineering?
Remember the movie XXX with Vin Diesel? Remember that tall bridge in the beginning of the movie that Vin Diesel drove a Corvette off? That's actually the Foresthill Bridge near Auburn California that we are currently performing a seismic retrofit on. It's really cool because it's one of the tallest bridges in the U.S. It's a 2,428 ft. long steel truss bridge with two huge 490 ft. tall concrete piers, which means I get to apply the concepts that I've learned in school. I love everything about it.

How has it been scheduling work and your classes? Are your hours flexible?
Scheduling work with school has been great. QEI makes sure that my first priority is school, so my hours are very flexible. It's awesome, because I feel like I get to enjoy the best of both worlds.

Do you have any advice for other students looking for an internship?
My advice for other students looking for an internship is to find something that you truly have a passion for. I'm lucky that I get to work on bridges at QEI. I've learned so much at Quincy and have been able to apply much of what I've learned from school.
