Picnic Day 2008: A Kaleidoscope of Voices
Saturday, April 19

The annual UC Davis Picnic Day has been a tradition since 1909, when it was first held to celebrate the dedication of a new dormitory. The event has evolved to an annual all-campus celebration that offers more than 150 events, student exhibits, popular perennial activities, and a chance for alumni to see old friends again. The event draws more than 50,000 visitors each year, giving the wider community an opportunity to see what UC Davis is all about.

In the College of Engineering (CoE), students offer crowd-pleasing demonstrations ranging from the laser maze to liquid nitrogen ice cream. Look for the student-built CoE float entry in the parade, while the Steel Bridge team demonstrates its latest competition entry. Dean Enrique Lavernia, the associate deans and student peer advisors are available at the Dean’s Tent, answering questions from prospective students and their families. Alumni gather together at department picnics and win exciting giveaways at the Welcome Station.
