 Garratt Gallagher

Electrical Engineering '07

Garratt Gallagher graduated with a double major in physics and electrical engineering and a minor in computer science. A consistent presence on the Dean's List during the academic year, he also served as a research assistant in the physics department and as a data analyst for Advanced Light Source, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. During the summers he worked as an electrical engineering intern at iRobot Corporation in Burlington, MA, updating the electronics in the iRobot PackBot® robotic arm, and developing and testing iRobot Create.

"I love robots. Come on, doesn’t everyone? Robotics combines the flexibility and limitless potential of computer science with the ability to affect the real world," Gallagher says.

Now working on a master's degree in robotics at Carnegie Mellon University, Gallagher intends to focus on helping robots participate more successfully in the everyday human world.

"I want them to be able to walk down an ordinary street without crashing or running into people," he says. "After graduate school, I will continue my research toward this goal, or possibly start a company to make robots."
