Student Commencement Speaker
The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, the College of Engineering and the College of Biological Sciences invite graduating seniors to apply to be the student speaker at the combined Fall Commencement Ceremony.
The Commencement Committee is composed of students, staff and faculty. The speaker may select a topic of his/her choice for the three- to four-minute presentation.
Qualifications
- Seniors must complete all requirements for a degree by the end of Winter Quarter 2009.
- Seniors must be in good academic standing.
Selection Procedure
- Complete the Student Speaker Application PDF and submit entry to: Engineeting Dena's Office, 1050 Kemper Hall by 5 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2009. Applications received after this time might not be considered.
- The Commencement Committee reviews applications and invites applicants for a preliminary interview. No written speech is needed at that time. Semi-finalists are selected at the conclusion of interview sessions.
- Semi-finalists are asked to give an oral presentation of their 3-5 minute speech. A typed copy of the speech is required upon arrival.
- The Commencement Committee selects the student speaker and notifies candidates of its decision. A faculty member of the Commencement Committee is assigned to work with the student speaker to finalize the speech.
