Environment, Health, and Safety
The College of Engineering is committed to helping departments within the College to provide a healthy and safe working environment for students, staff, and faculty. This commitment is part of the University of California Policy on Management of Health, Safety, and the Environment (PDF document requires the free Adobe Reader).
In addition, the responsibilities of Administration, Departments, Principal Investigators/Supervisors, Department/Unit Safety Coordinators, employees, students, and the campus Office of Environmental Health and Safety are detailed in the UC Davis Policy and Procedure 290-15.
The College of Engineering has an EH&S Coordinator who will assist departments within the College of Engineering as follows:
- Act as a liaison between departments and the campus Office of Environmental Health and Safety as needed
- Support Department Safety Coordinators, Principal Investigators, and Supervisors in assessing hazards in the workplace
- Provide EH&S training in addition to training normally provided by campus Office of Environmental Health and Safety
- Perform audits along with Department Safety Coordinators
- Develop generic safety documents that build from templates provided by the Office of Environmental Health and Safety
- Assist Department Safety Coordinators in the investigation of reports of unsafe conditions and identification of best practices.
The College of Engineering EH&S Coordinator is Dr. Jeffrey L. Feerer. In addition, each department within the College of Engineering has a Department Safety Coordinator. Safety classes are offered on a regular basis by the campus Office of Environmental Health and Safety and the College of Engineering. Enrollment in classes offered by the campus Office of Environmental Health and Safety can be accomplished online at http://ehs.ucdavis.edu/train/classes/index.cfm. Emergency Procedures
College of Engineering students, staff, and faculty should follow safe procedures for building emergencies such as fire, robbery, bomb threat, or utility outage.
