GPA of 3.94. Lorena has been on both the Dean's Honor List and the National Dean's List. She was active in student organizations and
campus events including the Aggie Micro Aeronautical Team (AMAT), the Chicano and Latino Engineers & Scientist Society
(CALESS), the Sigma Xi Research Society, Tau Beta Pi Honor Society, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).
From 2003 to 2004, Lorena conducted research at UC Davis in the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering under the
mentorship of Professor C.P. van Dam. In the summer of 2004, Lorena also conducted research at UC Berkeley in the Department of
Mechanical Engineering. Presently, Lorena is a graduate student in Stanford University's Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
Tien Bich Tran graduated with a BS in Material Science and Engineering from UC Davis in June 2005. In her senior year as an undergraduate, Tien received the Scholastic Achievement Award for outstanding students by ASM International: The Materials Information Society. Tien also conducted research in the Mentorships and Opportunities for Research in Engineering (MORE) program under the mentorship of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Professor J. Shackelford. Presently, Tien is enrolled in a Chemical Engineering and Materials Science Ph.D. program at UC Davis and works as the web master and historian for ASM International's Golden State Chapter.
Jose Santos graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in June 2004. Jose participated in the California Alliance for
Minority Participation (CAMP) program and the Mentorships and Opportunities for Research in Engineering (MORE) program. As an
undergraduate, Jose also conducted research under the mentorships of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering Professors A. Frank and F.
Eke. Presently, Jose is enrolled in a graduate school program at Stanford University.
Nicolas Fontaine graduated from UC Davis in December 2004 with a double major in Electrical Engineering and Optical Science
Engineering. Nicolas conducted in research in the Mentorships and Opportunities for Research in Engineering (MORE) program.
Presently, Nicolas is a second year graduate student in Electrical Engineering at UC Davis. Nicolas is also a member of the Electrical and
Computer Engineering Graduate Student Association and web master for Applied Science Professor B. Kolner's Laser and Electro-Optic
Research Group webpage. In Spring 2006 Nicolas participated in the Women's Engineering Link (WEL) program, where graduate students
were paired with undergraduate women engineers to act as mentors to them and agree to have a mentee participate in their research.
Chad Sterling, who was recognized as the 2005 Black Engineer of the Year, graduated from UC Davis with a BS in Computer Science and
Engineering in June 2003 and an MS in Computer Science in the summer of 2005. Chad was also a recipient of the V. Glenn Winslow
Award, which honors the most outstanding graduating man in the areas of leadership, integrity, and service to the campus community. He
also served as an ASUCD senator, was involved in the Black Engineers' Association (BEA), worked as a resident adviser, and was involved
in a number of activities with the African-American community on campus. Presently, Chad is working as a Technical Analyst for Hewlett-
Packard, where he had worked as an intern in the summer of 2004.
