Three UC Davis Engineering Joint Council (EJC) Members Elected as National NAESC Officers

The 2006 National Association for Engineering Student Councils (NAESC) Conference held in Washington D.C. was hosted by the Engineering Council of Virginia Tech. With an increasing number of student participates, UC Davis sent 5 delegates this year to represent the Davis College of Engineering.

The UC Davis students who attended the conference were:

  • Kenny Marina (elected NAESC Officer, in photo, top row, first from left-hand side) - Electrical Engineering, IEEE, VP of Outreach, Western Region
  • Rudolph Tan (elected NAESC Officer, in photo, top row, third from left-hand side) - Biochemical Engineering, ISPE, VP of Administration, Western Region
  • Irene Shu (elected NAESC Officer, in photo, top row, second from left-hand side) - Biomedical Engineering, BMES, VP of Relations, Western Region
  • Peter So (in photo, bottom row, second from left-hand side) - Biological Systems Engineering, EJC VP
  • Ara Stephanian (in photo, bottom row, first from left-hand side) - Biological Systems Engineering, EJC Outgoing President

The conference was a great experience to learn about professionalism, emphasizing the roles of leadership. School presentations, industry speakers--including CEO of Dewberry and VP of Sensors and Advanced Programs at Lockheed Martin--and voting delegate meetings took place during the day. In the evenings there was time for fun and relaxation in cities such as Reston, Georgetown, and Washington D.C. Perhaps the most prevalent theme that was taken away as a group of students interacting with leaders from other universities was the idea of networking on a personal level. UC Davis representatives were fortunate to meet and create relationships with students from over 20 schools, such as Michigan, Florida, and Cal Poly SLO, and will continue to grow and keep ties with many schools in future endeavors.
