Undergraduate Research
SD&R supports academic opportunities to enhance the undergraduate research experience.
- California Alliance for Minority Participation (CAMP) in Mathematics, Science and
Engineering
CAMP is an NSF-funded alliance of the eight general UC campuses which share a common goal of increasing the number of degrees awarded to students from underrepresented, economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds majoring in science, mathematics, engineering, and technology.
CAMP is funder of- Mentorships and Opportunities for Research in Engineering (MORE)
A pre-graduate school mentoring program for upper-division engineering students, which places students on faculty or graduate student research teams in the College of Engineering.
- Mentorships for Undergraduate Research Participants in the Physical and Mathematical Sciences (MURPPS)
A UC Davis undergraduate mentoring program designed to increase the number of disadvantaged students who pursue graduate studies in the physical and mathematical sciences by offering students the chance to work with professors on research projects relevant to their major. - Biology Undergraduate Scholars Program (BUSP)
An intensive enrichment program for disadvantaged and underrepresented undergraduates who are interested in careers in the life sciences. - UC Leadership Excellence Through Advanced Degrees (LEADS)
UC LEADS is a two-year program designed to identify educationally or economically disadvantaged undergraduates in science, mathematics, or engineering who show promise of succeeding in doctoral degree programs. - Mentorships for Undergraduate Research in Agriculture, Letters, and Science
(MURALS)
MURALS is a pre-graduate opportunity program designed to enrich the research experience of students situationally disadvantaged in their access to graduate school. - McNair Scholars Program
The goal of the McNair Scholars Program is to prepare talented Undergraduates for doctoral studies through involvement in research, seminars, advising, preparation for the Graduate Record Examination, and other scholarly activities.

SD&R research collaborators include:
- Center for Biophotonics Science and Technology (CBST)
CBST is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), as is devoted to the study of light and radiant energy in biology and medicine. The center brings together scientists, industry, educators, and the community to research and develop applications for biophotonics - the science of using light to understand the inner workings of cells and tissues in living organisms. - Northern California Nanotechnology Center (NC2)
A new research/teaching/industry facility for nanotechnology and the micro-fabrication of mechanical and electrical devices (MEMS), housed in the College of Engineering at UC Davis.
