Transfer Admission Agreement (TAA) Program
What is a Transfer Admission Agreement (TAA)?
A Transfer Admission Agreement (TAA) is a formal, written agreement that outlines the courses you must complete and grade point average you must earn before transferring from a community college. Written a year before you plan to transfer, it lists specific requirements for engineering majors and guarantees your admission to UC Davis College of Engineering in the engineering major you choose.
After the TAA is written, you sign the agreement together with your counselor and a UC Davis Engineering TAA Counselor. These signatures guarantee that you will be admitted to UC Davis in the engineering major you want, for the fall term you have chosen, provided that you complete the terms of the agreement and apply for admission during the open filing period.
A TAA may be written after you have completed at least 30 semester (45 quarter) units of transferable coursework. An agreement may be written up to one year before you transfer. For example, a TAA may be written in September for the next year's fall term at UC Davis. Although, a TAA is written up to one year before transferring, you should begin working with your counselor as soon as you start at the community college so that you can plan carefully your academic work.
After a TAA is signed you must submit the regular University of California application for admission during the open filing period. Shortly after we receive your application, we will send you a letter of admission. Your admission is guaranteed as long as you complete the provisions of the TAA. After you apply for admission, arrange to have official transcripts sent to Undergraduate Admissions at UC Davis from each college you have attended.
Engineering TAA Criteria for 2004-05
TAAs may be written for fall quarter only in all Engineering majors, with the exception of Biomedical Engineering (no TAAs will be accepted until Fall 2005 for entry Fall 2006) and Computational Applied Science (no TAAs will be accepted until Fall 2004 for entry Fall 2005) for students who meet the following criteria:
- Students must be California residents.
- Students must complete at least 60 semester (90 quarter) transferable units including all minimum UC eligibility requirements. The College of Engineering continues to require that each student must complete all the lower division requirements for the specific major before enrolling at UC Davis. See your transfer counselor for the College of Engineering's "Transfer Credit Agreement" (the "Engineering grid") that lists the courses required for each Engineering major or see the online engineering transfer credit agreements or see the Project Assist Web site under "Courses Required for Admission." Do not submit an Engineering TAA unless you will complete all required courses before enrolling at UC Davis.
- Students must have the following cumulative GPA at the time
the TAAs are written and must maintain them throughout the remainder of their
transfer work:
- Aeronautical Science and Engineering - 3.10
- Biological Systems Engineering - 3.10
- Chemical Engineering - 3.10
- Biochemical Engineering - 3.10
- Chemical Engineering/Materials Science & Engineering - 3.10
- Civil Engineering - 3.10
- Civil Engineering/Materials Science & Engineering - 3.10
- Computer Engineering - 3.40
- Computer Science & Engineering - 3.40
- Electrical Engineering - 3.40
- Electrical Engineering/Materials Science & Engineering - 3.40
- Materials Science & Engineering - 3.10
- Mechanical Engineering/Materials Science & Engineering - 3.10
- Optical Science & Engineering - 3.10
Benefits of TAA?
Transfer Admission Agreements give transfer students written guarantees of admission to UC Davis College of Engineering, one year in advance, in their first choice engineering major. If your TAA is approved, you are guaranteed admission to come to UC Davis without competing with the large pool of Engineering transfer applicants. The TAA program is a reward system which guarantees admission at lower GPAs than typical for regular transfer admission provided students complete the terms of the agreement.
May Anyone Have a TAA?
In general, anyone who is established as a student at the community college where the TAA is to be written and who will meet the academic criteria to transfer as a junior may arrange for a TAA. A TAA may not be written for people who: are attending a community college and a four-year institution at the same time; have earned a bachelor's degree; have completed 80 or more semester (120 or more quarter) units of combined community college/four-year college work; are international (non-immigrant) students or asylees; have attended the University of California and did not leave in good academic standing.
How do I arrange for a TAA?
If your community college is participating in the TAA program, see your counselor to discuss your transfer goals and to talk about a transfer guarantee. Once it has been determined that you are eligible to transfer to the University as a junior and that you meet the TAA criteria for your major, your counselor will start the process. Participating community colleges have the TAA criteria for the term you want to transfer.
