State-of-the-art facilities and record funding enable the College of Engineering, its faculty and students to make important contributions to research understanding and societal well-being.
With eight departments, 211 faculty, and more than 1,000 graduate students, the breadth of research and expertise is great. However, UC Davis Engineering’s key research strengths are in Energy, Environment and Sustainability, Engineering in Medicine and Information Technology and Applications.

College of Engineering faculty are recognized leaders in research and innovation in energy efficiency, biomass, wind, alternative fuels and hybrid vehicles, as well as environmental problems related to water, wastewater, air and soil. Their approach spans policy, science and technology to develop sustainable solutions that work.

Our researchers develop imaging and sensing technology to better understand the fundamental workings of biological and chemical systems; they develop vaccines, drug delivery strategies, tissue regeneration and many other technical solutions to fight complex diseases and advance health and well-being, while engaging students in the rich spectrum of research at molecular, cellular, tissue, system and organism levels.

The Engineering Translational Technology Center is a technology incubator designed to speed the transfer of high-impact, innovative ideas to the marketplace to meet society’s needs. The Center supports tenure-track professors during a critical stage of idea development.
