Transfer Admission Requirements

2016-2017 Transfer Admission Requirements

Required coursework varies by major; however, the following UC Davis courses are common to all engineering majors:

  • Mathematics 21A/B/C/D
  • Mathematics 22A/B
  • Physics 9A/B/C
  • Chemistry 2A
  • English 3 or University Writing Program (UWP) 1*

*Only UWP 1 can be used to satisfy the lower division composition requirement for Biological Systems Engineering students.

In addition to these general requirements, each engineering major requires that you complete a specific set of preparatory courses in order to be admitted:

Aerospace Science and Engineering

The following additional preparatory courses are required for admission:

  • Chemistry 2B
  • Physics 9D
  • Engineering 4, 17, 35 and 45
  • Engineering 6 or Engineering Computer Science (ECS) 30
  • Communication 1 or 3

 

Biochemical Engineering;
Chemical Engineering

The following additional preparatory courses are required for admission:

  • Chemistry 2B/C
  • Chemistry 128A/B; 129A
  • Engineering 6 or Engineering Computer Science (ECS) 30
  • Engineering 45 (for Chemical Engineering majors only)
  • Biological Sciences 2A

 

Biological Systems Engineering

The following additional preparatory courses are required for admission:

  • Chemistry 2B
  • Engineering 6
  • Engineering 17, 35
  • Communication 1 or 3
  • Biological Sciences 2A

 

Biomedical Engineering

The following additional preparatory courses are required for admission:

  • Chemistry 2B/C
  • Chemistry 8A/B or Chemistry 118A/B
  • Engineering 6, 17
  • Biological Sciences 2A

 

Civil Engineering

The following additional preparatory courses are required for admission:

  • Chemistry 2B
  • Engineering 6 or Engineering Computer Science (ECS) 30
  • Engineering 35 and 45
  • Communication 1 or 3

 

Computer Engineering

The following additional preparatory courses are required for admission:

  • Physics 9D
  • Engineering 17
  • Engineering Computer Science (ECS) 20, 30, 40 and 60
  • Communication 1 or 3

 

Computer Science and Engineering

The following additional preparatory courses are required for admission:

  • Physics 9D
  • Engineering 17
  • Engineering Computer Science (ECS) 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60
  • Communication 1**
  • Familiarity with UNIX (recommended)

**Only Communication 1 can be used to satisfy the communications requirement for Computer Science and Engineering. No credit will be allowed for Communication 3.

 

Electrical Engineering***

The following additional preparatory courses are required for admission:

  • Physics 9D
  • Engineering 17
  • Engineering Computer Science (ECS) 30

*** Applicants to Electrical Engineering are no longer required to complete Communication 1 or 3, Engineering 6, English 3 or University Writing Program 1. These courses are strongly recommended to be completed before transferring, as students will still be required to complete them at UC Davis upon transferring for graduation in the major.

 

Materials Science and Engineering

The following additional preparatory courses are required for admission:

  • Chemistry 2B/C
  • Physics 9D
  • Engineering 6 or Engineering Computer Science (ECS) 30
  • Engineering 17 and 45
  • Communication 1 or 3
  • Engineering 35 (recommended)

 

Mechanical Engineering****

The following additional preparatory courses are required for admission:

  • Chemistry 2B
  • Engineering 4, 17, 35 and 45
  • Engineering 6 or Engineering Computer Science (ECS) 30

**** Applicants to Mechanical Engineering are no longer required to complete Communication 1 or 3, Engineering 45, Physics 9D, English 3 or University Writing Program 1. These courses are strongly recommended to be completed before transferring, as students will still be required to complete them at UC Davis upon transferring for graduation in the major.
