Understanding plasticity and strength of crystalline materials in terms of the physics of microscopic defects has been a long-standing goal of materials research.

Dr. Baowei Fei is a Professor of Bioengineering and Cecil H. and Ida Green Chair in Systems Biology Science at the University of Texas at Dallas. He is also a Professor of Radiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

A tensor is a multi-indexed array of numbers. Tensor decompositions (decompositions of a tensor into smaller “building blocks”) have powerful applications in diverse areas such as complexity theory, quantum computing, and machine learning.

Ke Wu is a Ph.D. candidate at Carnegie Mellon University, advised by Elaine Shi.

Aaron Kyle is a Professor of the Practice in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Duke University. His faculty role focuses on teaching undergraduates with an emphasis on hands-on, inquiry-based learning. Kyle teaches first year design, medical device instrumentation, and capstone design courses at Duke.

Patients implanted with intracranial EEG electrodes provide unprecedented opportunities to understand how cognitive processes evolve over time. These electrodes are implanted to localize the seizure onset regions as part of the clinical monitoring to prepare for epilepsy surgery.

Ms. Gandhi and Ms. Lucero will be speaking generally about environmental consulting, how to get a job in consulting, and specific EKI projects across their various areas of practice.

Michael and Long will lead a technical discussion related to two seismic design topics. One, a case study of a site response analysis for a mid-rise tower located within a deep sedimentary basin in the Pacific Northwest. Then, a discussion of mean spectral matching techniques for earthquake time history modification in engineering practice.
