Event Date

Dr. Daniel Rooney is a soil physicist, remote sensing scientist, inventor, and founder and CEO of LandScan, with more than 25 years of experience at the intersection of soil science, remote sensing, geotechnical engineering, and geospatial analysis focused on measuring and modeling subsurface and land-surface systems. He is the CEO of LandScan, where he leads the development of a patented digital-twin platform for agriculture. The system integrates a Digital Vegetation Signature, combining calibrated multispectral remote sensing and 3D photogrammetry, with a Digital Soil Core that captures depth-resolved physical, chemical, spectral, and hydrologic soil properties. Root Cause Analytics fuses these data with genetics and management to identify constraints, model responses, and enable site-specific decisions. Using GEM (Genetics × Environment × Management), the presentation examines how genetic potential, soil and climatic conditions, and management choices jointly shape crop performance. The seminar will also discuss how measured outcomes can inform subsequent decisions and improve the digital twin over time.

This is a virtual event but there will be a Zoom viewing room in 1526 Bainer Hall.
