UC Davis College of Engineering Makes Gains in 2019 Grad School Rankings

The UC Davis College of Engineering is ranked 33 out of nearly 200 public and private graduate engineering programs, up one place from last year according to the 2019 U.S. News and World Report graduate rankings of America’s Best Graduate Schools.
“It’s been a good year for our college,” said Jennifer Curtis, dean of the College of Engineering. “I’m pleased that all of our graduate programs are now in the top 35 in the nation.”
The college’s highest-ranking graduate programs are biological and agricultural engineering and civil engineering, ranked 7 and 11, respectively.
Three of the college’s graduate programs also made significant gains from last year’s rankings. Electrical engineering rose seven places to 35; computer engineering and materials science and engineering each rose five places to 31 and 30, respectively.
An overview of each graduate-level major is below:
- Aerospace/aeronautical/astronautical engineering – ranked 23 (tie)
- Biological/agricultural engineering – ranked 7
- Biomedical/bioengineering – ranked 21 (tie)
- Chemical engineering – ranked 30 (tie)
- Civil engineering – ranked 11 (tie)
- Computer engineering – ranked 31 (tie)
- Electrical engineering – ranked 35 (tie)
- Environmental engineering – ranked 13 (tie)
- Materials science and engineering – ranked 30 (tie)
- Mechanical engineering – ranked 35 (tie)
The 2019 data were compiled by U.S. News & World Report. Graduate school rankings are based on a weighted average of factors including peer assessment, recruiter assessment, student selectivity, faculty resources, and research activity. Programs and specialty rankings are based solely on peer assessments by department heads in each area.
