Dr. Ciprian Catana received his M.D. degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Targu-Mures, Romania and his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from UC Davis. He is currently a Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School, Director of Integrated PET-MR imaging and Molecular Imaging at the Athinoula A. Martinos Center, Radiology Department, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Director of Collaborative Research and Innovation in Molecular Imaging, Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is the Vice President of the Physics, Instrumentation and Data Sciences Council, Immediate Past President of the Brain Imaging Council, and Elected Member of the Board of Directors of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI). He is also a permanent member of the NIH Clinical Translational Imaging Science (CTIS) Study Section. Dr. Catana is an active scientist with expertise in PET imaging technology development, research methods, and their applications in neuropsychiatry/neuroscience, cancer, cardiovascular, and lung disease. He leads an internationally recognized research program, funded by four NIH institutes and industry, focused on hybrid PET imaging. Specifically, his group’s efforts have concentrated on developing and validating PET-MRI technology, identifying and implementing methods to best exploit the combined data, and applying these tools to studies in various patient populations.
