Event Date
Join us in-person or virtually for a workshop session in Ghausi 3102 January 16th from 10-11 a.m. to learn best practices and essential tools for effective data management. Whether you're a student, researcher, or faculty member, this event is designed to provide you with practical insights and strategies to manage your research group's data more efficiently. We'll focus on backups, short-term (and long-term) storage, collaboration, and existing tools and resources.
Topics to be Discussed
- How to store and where to store data
- Data Management guides by the UC Davis library
- Box vs Google Drive vs One Drive and the support for it on campus
- Large data storage options (local storage, Synologies, HPC, cloud)
- Backups (Synologies vs external hard drives vs CrashPlan)
- OpenAccess policies on campus and where to store data publicly (via Dryad)
- Data Management Plans (DMPs) and how to implement them (DMPTool)
- UC Davis Github organization and how to handle code
There's a lot of topics but we'll focus on a high level overview on the types of tools that exist and resources that are available. There will be plenty of time for questions and the session will be recorded for further distribution. There will be an additional session held on January 16th from 10-11am. We look forward to seeing you there!
