Outgrowing Its Workbench, TEAM Lab Announces Rebrand as UC Davis Tech Foundry
The Translating Engineering Advances to Medicine (TEAM) Lab, a device development facility providing end-to-end design, development and manufacturing services within the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of California, Davis, today was rebranded as UC Davis Tech Foundry.

"Since our launch in 2010, our facility has supported groundbreaking biomedical research at UC Davis and UC Davis Health," said Steven Lucero, director of operations for UC Davis Tech Foundry. "Our success has allowed us to grow and pursue new facets, from working outside the medical device industry to providing educational opportunities to students. The UC Davis Tech Foundry name expresses this growth and our new, broad vision for the facility."
The word "tech" encapsulates the broader scope, referring to the wide range of projects the facility can support beyond medicine, while “foundry” symbolizes an establishment that facilitates significant creation and innovation.
"Foundry" also reflects the physical expansion from its makerspace at the Genome and Biological Sciences Facility in Davis. On May 2, UC Davis Tech Foundry will open a second, 7,500-square-foot device development facility at the university’s Sacramento-based innovation district, Aggie Square. The additional space will allow UC Davis Tech Foundry to expand its team, increase its services, provide richer educational experiences and facilitate in-person collaborations with researchers and industry innovators.
"By providing researchers, students and industry partners with cutting-edge tools and expert engineering support, UC Davis Tech Foundry will help streamline design and prototyping, accelerate medical breakthroughs and turn bold ideas into life-changing solutions," said George Baxter, UC Davis’ chief innovation and economic development officer.
UC Davis Tech Foundry, at its Genome and Biological Sciences Facility and Aggie Square locations, will continue to provide end-to-end design, development and manufacturing services to students and researchers at UC Davis and other universities, as well as to private companies and individuals. Its focus will remain on developing and manufacturing mechanical and electromechanical devices, particularly for applications in health domains, and it is open to supporting any engineering project through fabrication and design services.
