Pillars of the Community
On the eve before Picnic Day, the UC Davis College of Engineering Class of 1969 gathered to celebrate 55 years as Aggie Engineers. The reunion also included the dedication of the Machining and Fabrication Lab in the Diane Bryant Engineering Student Design Center, or ESDC.
Initiated by alumni Laird Parry and John Baum, which quickly became a trio with the support of fellow alum Ross Allen, the “incomparable” Class of 1969 has raised $1.2 million for the Machining and Fabrication Lab. During the ESDC renovation, the lab expanded to include 11 lathes and 15 mills. The more than 5,000-square-foot lab combines the best in traditional manufacturing with cutting-edge additive and composite manufacturing capabilities.
In recognition of the 16 generous donors to the lab, a new pillar was unveiled at the ESDC that symbolizes the pivotal support provided by the Class of 1969, true pillars of the College of Engineering community.
