Abstract

The purpose of this presentation is to open the door for geotechnical and civil engineers to realize that they can apply their knowledge and skill set to underground construction and tunnel design. The presentation goes into complimentary coursework, markets, examples of geotechnical engineering applications, and concludes with a case study of the BNSF Keddie Tunnel #4, Downtown Extension, and Claremont Tunnel project.

Biography

Kush is a Senior Associate Engineer with Delve Underground in their Sacramento office. Mr. Chohan has his BS in Civil Engineering from California State University, Chico and MS degree from the Geotechnical Engineering program at UT-Austin in 2009. His current work involves design and project management of tunnels and underground structures, excavation support, ground improvement, and rock and soil mass characterization. Mr. Chohan has performed this work in San Francisco, New York City, Texas, and Sydney, Australia. He joined Delve Underground in May 2011 and currently designing new rail tunnels for the City of San Francisco and State of California.
