College of Engineering Faculty Lead 2023 Academic Senate and Academic Federation Award Winners
Four College of Engineering faculty members were among those honored with 2023 Academic Senate and Academic Federation Awards when laurels were announced this week.
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering received the top award given by each organization. Jay Lund, distinguished professor, was awarded the Faculty Distinguished Research Award from the Academic Senate. Daniel Wilson, academic administrator and associate director of the Center for Geotechnical Modeling, received the James H. Meyer Distinguished Achievement Award from the Academic Federation.
Distinguished Blue Planet Prize Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Director of the Institute of Transportation Studies Daniel Sperling received a Distinguished Scholarly Public Service Award from the Academic Senate and Professor of Computer Science Patrice Koehl received one of the Academic Senate's Undergraduate Distinguished Teaching Awards.
Unique among UC campuses, the Academic Federation represents academic appointees in titles such as lecturer (Unit 18), adjunct professor and librarian, agronomist and specialist, professional researcher and project scientist, and academic administrator and academic coordinator — about 2,000 members total. The UC Davis Academic Senate, representing some 3,000 ladder-rank faculty members, is one division of the systemwide Academic Senate, with each campus constituting a division.
The Academic Senate and Academic Federation will hold a joint awards reception in the spring, with details to be announced at a later date.
