Video: Dean's Distinguished Speaker Ashok Gadgil's Journey in Development Engineering
On April 30, College of Engineering Dean's Distinguished Speaker Ashok Gadgil presented "Development Engineering: My Journey and Learnings."
Gadgil, a distinguished professor emeritus of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley and retired senior scientist and former director of the Environmental Energy Technologies Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, is nationally recognized for his technological innovation as a “humanitarian inventor.”
In his talk, Gadgil spoke about his journey and lessons learned in Development Engineering, a new emerging discipline that merges the understanding of quantitative social sciences with the engineering sciences to address some of the severe problems of people living in poverty. The discipline aligns with the college's Next Level strategic vision to promote "Engineering for All" and "leave no community behind."
