Meghna Srivastava is this year’s recipient of the of the College of Engineering’s Jeffery C. Gibeling Master’s Thesis Excellence Award, which recognizes the M.S. student who has submitted the best master's thesis. Srivastava earned her M.S. in materials science and engineering under the mentorship of Associate Professor Marina Leite.
Second-year materials science and engineering Ph.D. student Margaret Duncan, part of Associate Professor Marina Leite’s lab, received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. My general approach in life is to lead by example and put 110% effort towards excelling in the important goals. I try to demonstrate that gender does not prevent me from excelling, and I try to be a good role model to the next generation to inspire them to work hard towards their goals.
Engineering is at the intersection of fundamental and applied research, which I find perfectly aligned with one of my long-term career goals: doing science that can help our society mitigate climate change.
The second annual awards recognize the outstanding achievements of the College of Engineering’s master’s and Ph.D. students in research, service, safety and diversity, equity and inclusion. Recipients receive a $500 award and will have their name added to a permanent display in the Kemper Hall lobby.
