Dr. Richard L. Corsi has returned to his alma mater 32 years after receiving his M.S. and Ph.D. in civil (environmental) engineering as the dean of the UC Davis College of Engineering. He began his appointment on September 15.

The UC Davis Coffee Center is the world's first academic research center focused on coffee, aiming to do for coffee what UC Davis has done for beer and wine. Through its research, teaching and mentorship, the center plans to train the next generation of coffee professionals while improving the entire industry and making it more sustainable.

Each year, the UC Davis College of Engineering recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, research and community with the Outstanding Faculty Awards. Faculty members are nominated by their respective departments and are selected by the college’s faculty awards committee.

Richard Corsi, a leading expert in the field of indoor air quality, will be the next dean of the College of Engineering. Corsi is a UC Davis engineering alumnus (M.S. 1985 and Ph.D. 1989, civil and environmental engineering) and was a 2016 recipient of the college’s Distinguished Engineering Alumni Medal.

In March 2021, Interim Dean Jeffery C. Gibeling announced the formation of the College of Engineering Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee for staff and faculty. The mission of the college DEI committee is to advise the dean and college leadership team on issues of equity, diversity and inclusion as they relate to faculty, staff and students within the college.

On May 9, 2021, our dear colleague, mentor and friend Tanya Whitlow passed away. A champion of student success at UC Davis for more than 25 years, Tanya designed, developed and directed the College of Engineering’s Leadership in Engineering Advancement, Diversity and Retention (LEADR) program. This innovative program aims to recruit, retain and graduate, diverse student populations from the College of Engineering.

AvenueE is a program designed to help community college transfer students smoothly transition to UC Davis, and ultimately, a career in engineering or computer science. It aims to increase participation of women and underrepresented minorities in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), with the goal of creating a new generation of promising STEM talent and leadership.

The UC Davis College of Engineering continues to rank among the nation’s top graduate engineering schools at 33 out of nearly 200 public and private graduate engineering programs, according to the 2022 U.S. News and World Report rankings of America’s Best Colleges.

On Friday, October 9, 2020, the College of Engineering kicked off the Engineering Student Design Center (ESDC) expansion with a groundbreaking ceremony and virtual celebration.
